I had been using, in recent years, a brand advertised for nursing mothers but they "improved" their product to where it now seems very much thinner and less effective, doesn't stay on long at all. So I was looking for a brand that was maybe truer to the native product, maybe less ultra refined... I didn't know. I just needed something thick and "sticky" that would really adhere for a long time and do the job. Of course, over the years I began using lanolin as well for my hands and in general ANY scrape or wound or other skin problem that came up. I was very surprised to discover its pain killing qualities. I did not understand why pure lanolin would be a pain killer for a cut or wound (still don't) but it is absolutely essential for paper cuts, hangnails, sore cuticles, etc.Anyway recently I searched the web and ordered 4 different brands of "pure"... I put a very little bit on my finger to let it warm up from my body warmth and then lightly touch each area where I want to apply it. I then gently rub it in until it is has been absorbed. I usually do this just before going to bed at night so it has time to do its thing. Just don't expect to polish you nails immediatly after using it for dry cuticles. I can't find anhydrous lanolin in the drug stores anymore and was so glad to find it available from Naturals New Zealand through Amazon. The price is a little high but the product is well worth it. The average humidity where I live sits right around 20% with about 8 inches of rain fall yearly. It is never a moist heat just very dry and very hot.I am a rock climber, mountain biker, hiker, and horse back rider. With all the outdoor activity I do my skin is very dry. I was most concerned about my lips and my nose. I had bloody noses all the time, and my lips were in a constant state of cracking and healing. I have dealt with these problems since I was about 9 years old. I went to my doctor and he gave me some to put on my lip since it was bleeding during a routine skin cancer screening. It was amazing. For over a week my lip didn't even crack. I have used ever kind of chapstick under the sun, never finding something that worked. I ordered this days after the first use.
